On Saturday, 6 July 2019 an almost city-wide call went out to EMS teams of a fire in the SAPS apartment block in Sophiatown. Due to concerns of people being potentially trapped within the building – Riga Rescue responded immediately!
The City of Johannesburg and EMS teams rushed to the location, fearing the worst but hoping for the best.
Hundreds of residents evacuated the building as the fire allegedly broke out in an apartment on the 8th floor. Firefighters were able to stamp out the blaze while further teams carried out a building-wide search and rescue, ensuring the fire did not re-ignite and all residents had been evacuated safely.
Thank you to all EMS teams that promptly responded to the call – no injuries or fatalities were reported.
